Can you believe it? We are still in shock!
The 2019 Springbank Whisky School has come to an end…
For week 10, we were joined by Gosia, Jan, Mariusz, Mattias, Michiel, Wouter and Yvette from Poland, Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium - a truly international and varied group.
With one more pupil than the standard whisky school intake, this week’s students were able to provide even more assistance than usual to our distillery staff - who we must thank for their time, effort and dedication. As Production Manager Gavin McLachlan stresses every week, at the “graduation ceremony,” we couldn’t run the Whisky School without the full, enthusiastic participation of our staff. Our staff love having the students around during term time and are always both keen and patient while teaching them about what happens day in, day out at the distillery.
This week the pupils engaged in the regular school duties of malting, bottling and more - as well as the Springbank and Cadenhead Warehouse Tastings (which is not how our staff usually finish their day at work… well, maybe the Cadenhead Sales Team do!)
Also, throughout the term, our Whisky School students have been among the first people to try the new blending session, which forms an integral part of the Barley to Bottle Tour. Taking place in our board room, these blending sessions allow guests to blend a range of Springbank whiskies to create their own bottle to take home with them.
In an unprecedented moment, Gavin couldn’t decide on a Scholar of the Week - and thus all 7 pupils shared the award - which just proves the level of effort and application displayed this week.
Thank you to all of 2019’s Whisky School pupils, from Week 1 all the way to Week 10. This has been a tremendously successful term and we hope you have enjoyed the entire experience, including the new features we introduced this year. The Whisky School remains, as it always has been, a team effort and we couldn’t do it without the cooperation of all staff and visitors.
And see you next year!
